Android Dominates The World

Over the past year, Android-based smartphones have jumped in popularity, from 36.1 of smartphones shipped worldwide in the first quarter of 2011 to 59 percent of those shipped in same period this year, according to Framingham-based International Data Corp.

Android and iOS devices now dominate the market, accounting for 82 percent of the 152.3 million phones shipped in the first quarter of 2012.

Meanwhile, Symbian fell from a quarter of the market to just 6.8 percent and Blackberry OS dropped from 13.6 percent to 6.4 percent.
