An analysis by Framingham-based International Data Corp. (IDC) showed revenue for the worldwide data storage software market grew 4.1 percent in the second quarter of 2013 compared to 2012, to nearly $3.5 billion.
According to IDC, data protection and recovery software, and storage and device management were the two largest sources of growth during the quarter, up 8.9 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively.
“Once again, organizations continue to invest in storage software that improves the resiliency and operational efficiencies within their storage infrastructure,” Eric Sheppard, research director for storage software at IDC, said in a statement.
The growth was measured by IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software QView, a quantitative tool that analyzes the global storage software market.
Topping the list of storage software suppliers were Hopkinton-based EMC Corp., with 25.6-percent market share, followed by IBM and California-based Symantec, with respective market shares of 16 percent and 14.8 percent.
