AMSC To Supply Hyundai Wind Turbine Effort

Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. has received an order for 17 sets of full wind turbine electrical systems from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. of South Korea.

Hyundai will use the systems in 1.65 megawatt wind turbines it is producing under license from AMSC Windtec, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Superconductor. Hyundai also has a contract with AMSC Windtec for 2 megawatt turbine designs.

Financial terms of the new contract were not disclosed.

Hyundai has sales and marketing rights for the turbines around the world and said it intends to begin volume wind turbine production.
