AMSC To Hook Up Renewable Market Hub

Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. will supply pipelines for the country's first renewable energy market hub, which will connect three power grids to enable faster adoption of renewable energy.

The superconductor electricity pipelines will be centered in Albuquerque, N.M. and will connect three transmission grids in the Eastern Reliability Council of Texas system. The three grids within the system are somewhat interconnected, but have never been united as a single system.

AMSC will provide the project with superconductor power cables, wire and power converters. The interconnected systems will feed the "Tres Amigas SuperStation," and will complete the connection of important power grids between Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
