AMSC receives Australian wind farm order

Westboro-based American Superconductor Corp. announced it has received an order from Suzlon Energy Australia Pty. Ltd. (SEA) for a Dynamic VAR system for Australia's Hallett Wind Farm, making it one of Australia's largest wind farms.

AMSC will deliver a D-VAR system rated at 20 megaVARs of reactive compensation to SEA in the second half of calendar year 2007.  The systems will be installed at a utility substation connecting AGL Energy's Hallett Wind Farm to the national power grid.  The Hallett facility will provide zero-emission electricity for 54,000 Australian homes.

"This new order from Suzlon demonstrates our growing international presence and our close working relationship with the industry's leading wind turbine manufacturers," said Chuck Stankiewicz, AMSC's senior vice president of AMSC Power Systems.

Suzlon Energy Limited is the world's largest wind turbine generator manufacturer in terms of market capitalization, and is responsible for installing 53 percent of the capacity added in India in 2005.
