AMSC Puts First Turbines In Turkey

American Superconductor Corp. of Devens said it has licensed its proprietary wind turbine design to Turkey's first wind turbine manufacturer, Model Enerji Ltd.

AMSC said Model Enerji has exclusive rights to manufacture, sell, install, operate and maintain AMSC's WT1650 wind turbines in Turkey. Model Enerji also has non-exclusive rights for other nearby Mediterranean and Eastern European countries. AMSC said the 1.65 megawatt turbines will be manufactured in Ankara and Model Enerji plans to have its first prototype built by the middle of next year. If that's successful, the company could begin full-scale production by the end of next year.

Model Enerji may also get right of first refusal to license AMSC's 2 megawatt and 2.5 megawatt turbines.
