Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. has licensed a proprietary wind turbine design to a Taiwan-based company.

AMSC said TECO Electric & Machinery Co. Ltd. will pay a multi-million dollar upfront fee, plus royalty payments for the turbines it produces. The Taiwanese company will begin manufacturing the 2 MW turbines in 2009 and sell them in Taiwan and mainland China.

TECO is the world's third largest motor manufacturer.
