Devens energy solutions provider AMSC announced Monday an agreement to supply electrical control systems for a Korean wind turbine manufacturer.
The agreement has AMSC as the exclusive supplier of electrical control systems for Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction, Co.’s 5.5-megawatt offshore wind turbine.
The turbine had been under joint development by Hyundai Electric and Energy Systems, but Doosan earlier this year acquired the prototype turbine, design and rights to manufacture and sell the turbine.
The system has been operating in South Korea’s Jeju Island, where it has earned a reputation for its durability, even withstanding 124 mph winds from a typhoon.
“This agreement helps us grow our market presence in both the South Korean and the growing global offshore wind market, allying AMSC with a premium global brand,” said AMSC President and CEO Daniel McGahn in the press release.
