AMSC Gains Foothold In Korea

Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. has formed AMSC Korea to take advantage of South Korea's rapidly growing wind energy and power grid markets.

The company has also formed a partnership with LS Cable Ltd. in Seoul to try to install at least 6.2 miles of superconductor cable in South Korea's commercial power grid over the next five years.

AMSC Korea will cover engineering, sales, business development and field service support for customers.

Under an $86 billion government plan, South Korea will steadily increase the share of renewable energy used in its power grid. AMSC said its new division can "accelerate the adoption of our power electronics and superconductor" technology.
