AMSC Files Appeal Of Court Dismissal

Devens-based AMSC is asking China's highest court to overturn a lower court's dismissal of its suit against two Chinese companies, one of which AMSC says canceled orders that had generated 70 percent of the company's revenues in 2010.

AMSC, formerly American Superconductor, is seeking to revive its suit against Sinovel Wind Group and Dalian Guotong Electric Co. The case is part of AMSC's legal actions against Sinovel, which AMSC believes breached a contract and stole intellectual property. In all, AMSC is seeking $1.2 billion for contracted shipments and damages from Sinovel.

In the second half of last year, AMSC lost nearly all of its revenue from Sinovel after the company refused to pay for products it had ordered.

The case AMSC is appealing focuses on alleged copyright infringement by Sinovel and Guotong. The company is seeking a cease and desist order, as well as $200,000 in damages.
