China's highest court will hear a challenge in a lawsuit filed by Devens-based AMSC in its ongoing dispute with a Chinese company, according to AMSC.
AMSC, a maker of products for wind energy and the electric grid, said China's Supreme People's Court will review a jurisdiction opposition brought by Sinovel Wind Group in a copyright infringement case that AMSC brought against Sinovel and Dalian Guotong Electric Co. The case is part of a broader set of legal actions AMSC has brought against Sinovel, which AMSC believes breached a contract and stole intellectual property. In all, AMSC is seeking $1.2 billion for contracted shipments and damages from Sinovel.
In the case that the high court has agreed to hear, AMSC is seeking a cease and desist order, as well as $200,000 in damages.
In the second half of 2011, AMSC, formerly American Superconductor, lost nearly all its revenue from Sinovel after the company refused to pay for products it had ordered.
