MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester have appointed a new shared chief medical officer.
Dr. Michele Sinopoli will assume the role in early April. Previously, she was chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Vincent since 2019, according to a Thursday press release from Texas-based Tenet Healthcare, which operates both hospitals.
The announcement comes on the heels of high executive turnover at MetroWest Medical Center. Currently, three of the four listed members of the existing leadership team at MetroWest are in interim roles, with John Whitlock, chief financial officer at Saint Vincent, serving as the interim CEO at MetroWest Medical Center after the sudden January departure of David Elgarico after he served as its CEO for seven months.
Previously, Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan served as CMO for both hospitals as the group chief medical officer for Tenet Health in Massachusetts, Tennessee, and South Carolina. She left the role in early 2022 to take on an executive role at BayCare Health System in Florida, according to a December press release from BayCare.
As chief medical officer, Sinopoli will be tasked with developing and implementing initiatives to ensure clinical quality and patient safety at both hospitals.
“As Chief of OB/GYN at Saint Vincent Hospital, she has proven herself to be a highly effective clinical leader who is well respected by the medical staff and the broader hospital community. She is committed to providing high-quality, safe care to the communities we serve,” said Carolyn Jackson, CEO at Saint Vincent Hospital and the Massachusetts market for Tenet Healthcare.
Sinopoli earned her bachelors and medical degrees from Boston University and completed her residency at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester. She holds an MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
