American Superconductor powers Chinese turbines

Westboro-based American Superconductor (AMSC) has received an order for 450 PowerModule PM1000 systems that will help power Chinese wind turbines for one of China's largest wind turbine manufacturers.

Windtec, a developer of proprietary wind turbine systems based in Austria, will package the PowerModule system with other electronic components.  This is the fourth order that Windtec has placed with AMSC during the last 12 months, and is its largest order for the PowerModule system in company history.

With the order, AMSC will be serving more than 2,500 megawatts worth of wind-generated electricity with its D-VAR and PowerModule systems.
