American Superconductor Gets $450M Order

A Chinese company has ordered $450 million in wind turbine components from American Superconductor Corp. of Devens.

AMSC said it will begin shipping the electrical components from 1.5 megawatt wind turbines to Beijing-based Sinovel Wind Corp. Ltd. in January 2009. The contract will end in December of 2011.

American Superconductor, which has already received multiple orders from the Chinese company, said the turbines built with the new components will support more than 10 gigawatts of wind power capacity.
