American Antiquarian Society seeking $20M for expansion

The American Antiquarian Society is seeking $20 million in state bonds towards a $21.6 million expansion project.

The expansion will be discussed at a public hearing held by MassDevelopment for $20 million in bonds to help fund a $21.6 million expansion project by the Worcester-based keepier of historical ephemera dating back to before the Revolutionary War. The meeting was set to be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the public hearing announcement, the money will be used to fund:

  • An approximately 6,870 square foot expansion of the educational and cultural facilities at 185 Salisbury St.,
  • The construction of a 51 parking-space lot
  • The acquisition of approximately 11,000 square feet of land and an existing 3,097 square foot building consisting of three stories located at 4 Regent St. in Worcester
  • Refinancing that will allow for the construction of a new two-story, approximately 12,000 square foot addition
  • An expansion of the current parking lot
  • Installation of safety equipment such as sprinklers
