Framingham-based Ameresco was awarded a $17.4 million contract by the state of Hawaii to install solar powers and undertake energy efficiency improvements at 33 government buildings.
The project will cut the state’s energy costs by more than $1 million in the first year and $28 million over the next two decades, according to Ameresco.
As part of the project, more than 3,730 solar panels will be connected to 17 power devices spread across Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai and the Island of Hawaii (the Big Island). The solar arrays are expected to generate some 1.3 million kilowatt hours of electricity each year, Ameresco said.
Ameresco received a notice of intent last month for a contract to build an 18.6 megawatt solar plant for the U.S. Army in Maryland.
