Framingham-based renewable energy company Ameresco will complete a large-scale municipal streetlight energy conservation project in Lawrence, the company announced on Wednesday, reporting that it was selected to replace more than 3,800 light fixtures with energy efficient LED’s.

The project is reportedly self funded through an energy savings performance contract and will come with no upfront cost to the city. In a press release, Ameresco estimated that the project will accrue $12.2 million in cost savings over the term of the contract.

Ameresco has previously worked with Lawrence to implement energy conservation measures at its city hall and main library branch, according to the announcement. The streetlight conversion project is slated to build on that work.

Ameresco helped the city purchase the streetlights and will provide maintenance throughout the length of the contract, which is expected to save the city money because it will not rely on a utility company to provide those services.
