Ameresco, Inc. has extended its partnership with the British charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust to plant 1,000 trees and help landscape the Yorkshire Dales National Park in England. Ameresco, an energy efficiency company based in Framingham, planted 500 trees last year as part of the partnership and will now plant an additional 500 trees this year.
The Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust is an independent charity dedicated to the preservation of woodlands in the Yorkshire Dales, a national park in Northern England. The partnership with Ameresco is part of its bigger project to plant 28,000 new trees. Ameresco helped plant 500 trees through financial aid and employee volunteer efforts in 2022. Employee volunteers from Ameresco will work alongside the YDMT team to maintain and plant trees across the woodlands, according to an Ameresco press release on Monday. The effort should offset 80 metric tons of carbon dioxide throughout the next 50 years. Ameresco will help with meadow restoration work by creating wildflower habitat for threatened pollinator species.
"Our team is proud to continue our partnership with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and help our clients reach their net-zero goals by continuing our work in planting and tending to trees in the region," Derek Dixon, vice president of Ameresco Leeds, said in a press release.
Ameresco is a clean energy company with more than 1,000 employees. The company announced in February it was acquiring Italian energy efficiency and renewable energy company ENERQUOS Energy Solutions S.r.l. It acquired a five-megawatt wind farm in County Cork, Ireland in November.
In England, Ameresco announced a partnership with the Bristol City Council to bring $1.23 billion of investment to help make the southwest city in England of Bristol carbon neutral and climate resilient by 2030. The deal gained approval on Dec. 6 and will last 20 years with major infrastructure changes happening during the first five years, including giving residents and businesses access to low carbon heating, as well as solar panel installations and low carbon heating systems going in at schools.
