Clean energy company Ameresco, headquartered in Framingham, announced on Tuesday it has entered into a $43-million energy performance contract with the U.S. Coast Guard for a battery energy storage system project at Training Center Petaluma in California.

Training Center Petaluma is the USCG’s largest West Coast training facility, per the announcement.

The project will mark the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s largest solar renewable energy project integrated within the USCG’s first fully functional, renewable energy-powered microgrid, according to Ameresco.

One completed, Training Center Petaluma anticipates saving more than $1.2 million in its first year.

The project begins this month and is expected to wrap up in fall 2023.
