Framingham-based Ameresco Inc. will develop new energy and water savings projects for federal facilities under a new U.S. Department of Energy contract.
The contract, which will be shared by Ameresco and 21 other companies for a maximum total worth of $55 billion, is one of the DOE’s Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreements, according to a Friday press release from Ameresco. The current contract has a base ordering period of five years with an 18-month option, and will most likely be used to improve federal infrastructure, save energy, and create jobs. It was awarded to Ameresco April 27.
The DOE began awarding IDIQ energy savings performance contracts in 1998, and since then, 362 projects have been awarded by 25 major federal agencies, according to the release. Ameresco, a longtime IDIQ contract holder, was most recently awarded a $91.1 million energy savings contract at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., under the program.
