Ameresco inks $7.5M energy deal for Virginia school district

Framingham-based Ameresco announced Thursday a contract with a Virginia school district for a $7.5-million energy savings project to upgrade infrastructure in 22 schools.
The upgrades are expected to affect more than 2.2 million square feet of space and reduce the Albemarle County Public Schools’ carbon footprint by 3,500 tons annually.
Financially, the district is expected to save more than $8.7 million over the 12-year contract.
The project includes energy saving measures intended to optimize the energy efficiency of the facilities, including energy-efficient LED lighting technology and controls and water reduction measures like low-flow fixtures.
In a statement, Ameresco Vice President David Anderson said the district is taking a proactive approach to enhancing the learning environment in the schools.
“This project supports energy efficiency and water efficiency measures that are expected to deliver energy cost-savings and better facility conditions, allowing ACPS to improve classroom environments for students and staff,” Anderson said.
