Ameresco finishes $5.1M Cannon Mountain project

Framingham energy services provider Ameresco completed a $5.1-million project at Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire, set to save the ski resort $386,000 annually.

The state of New Hampshire and Cannon Mountain contracted with Ameresco for the project last July. The completion of the project saw the installation of energy efficiency and conservation measures for the mountain’s snowmaking and energy-supply systems.

The project included the replacement of 388 existing energy intensive land-based air/water snow guns with tower-mounted low-energy snow guns. The new guns reduce the amount of compressed air needed. They’re also easier to move around the mountain as needed, according to a press release.

In addition, 1,200 feet of water and air lines were added, as well as a new pump house located at 3,170 feet that allows for snowmaking at higher elevations.

The mountain’s main-trunk power line was replaced with a more efficient primary power supply line and high-and-low-voltage transformer.

Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), in a statement, congratulated Ameresco on receiving the New Hampshire Governor’s Award for Energy Efficiency for the company’s work on the mountain.

The state has been making a push to reduce the state’s energy consumption by 50 percent by 2030.

“Recognizing that a clean environment and economic development go hand-in-hand, we must work together to combat climate change and protect the beautiful natural resources that make New Hampshire unique,” Hassan said.
