Ameresco completes Minn. energy efficiency project

A small city in Minnesota is more energy efficient thanks to Framingham’s Ameresco.

The firm, which works with municipalities and others to make their energy systems more efficient or to use renewable energy, said Wednesday it has completed such an upgrade in St. Peter, Minn., a city of 11,000 about an hour southeast of Minneapolis.

The upgrades include new LED lighting at 12 municipal facilities and for 1,000 lights in parks and other public spaces, building automation improvements and the use of ultraviolet disinfection at its wastewater treatment facility.

The contract totaled $2.6 million. The improvements are estimated to pay for themselves through energy savings within 20 years.
