Ameresco Completes Lowell Energy Efficiency Project

Framingham-based renewable energy company Ameresco Inc. announced the completion of a city-wide infrastructure upgrade and energy efficiency project in Lowell on Wednesday. The project is expected to save the city $1.5 million in annual energy costs over 20 years.

City leaders and company officials celebrated the projects implementation at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Lowell City Hall.

Under a $21.1 million contract, Ameresco completed more than 23 energy conservation measures at 47 city buildings, according to a statement. Projects included electrical, mechanical, weatherization and operational upgrades.

The new energy-efficient systems will allow the city to purchase power at a discounted rate for 20 years through an environmental incentive program, according to the statement.

“Not only are these projects expected to result in significant energy cost savings for the city, but they also allow members of the community to witness first-hand the implementation of clean energy and sustainability practices that will reduce their overall environmental impact,” said William J. Cunningham, senior vice president at Ameresco.
