Framingham-based Ameresco received a notice of intent Friday for a contract to build an 18.6 megawatt solar plant for the U.S. Army in Maryland.
If it wins the project, the energy efficiency and renewable energy company will finance, design, build, operate, own and maintain the photovoltaic facility at Fort Detrick, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. The plant will sell its output under a long-term power purchase agreement.
“This is a major milestone,” said John Lushetsky, executive director of the Army’s Energy Initiatives Task Force (EITF). “It brings us one step closer to having shovels in the ground at Fort Detrick and one step closer to reaching Army renewable energy goals.”
The notice of intent will allow the Army and Ameresco to move into an evaluation and negotiation phase that could ultimately result in a contract, the Army said.
The EITF was established in 2011 and is focused on developing renewable and alternative energy projects of more than 10 megawatts on Army installations in the U.S.
