Energy efficiency and renewable energy company Ameresco Inc. of Framingham announced that it's signed two new contracts in Ohio and Wisconsin and completed a third project in California.
Ameresco said the Lorain County Joint Vocational School, outside Cleveland, Ohio, will save more than $4.5 million during its 15-year contract with the company through energy conservation measures and infrastructure upgrades.
The company is also utilizing the school's building trades students at various points of the project at the 10-acre campus.
Upgrades to be performed include: new LED lighting and controls, an energy management system, HVAC system upgrades and new green components such as a solar thermal hot water system.
The upgrades are expected to reduce the school's carbon footprint in the town by the equivalent of 1,950 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equal to the electricity used to power 243 homes in a year.
Similarly, Amereso's project with the Oconto Falls School District in northeastern Wisconsin will save the district $2.7 million annually at eight facilities.
Upgrades will be performed at six schools, the district office and bus garage and are expected to help reduce the district's energy use by more than 23 percent during a 20-year contract.
Upgrades to the facilities include lighting controls, water conservation retrofits, boiler plant and water heater replacement.
The company also celebrated the completion of a landfill gas-to-energy project in Paradise, Calif.
Butte County officials joined Ameresco in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the 2.2-megawatt project, which is expected to generate enough energy to power 1,300 homes.
Ameresco designed and built the facility, which it will own, operate and maintain through a 20-year contract. The facility will collect methane gas produced by decaying organic materials and process it to generate power, selling the power to a local energy company. A portion of the revenues will be returned to the county.
