Seattle online retailer Amazon is closing its Milford facility at 8 Industrial Road, along with four other Massachusetts facilities in Dedham, Everett, Randolph, and Mansfield, according to a statement by Amazon spokesperson Caitlin McLaughlin, received by WBJ on Friday.
Amazon did not reveal how many employees would be affected by closure, but McLaughlin said Amazon would offer all employees the opportunity to transfer to different delivery stations in Massachusetts. The different facilities have better amenities than the five closing facilities, including increased on-site parking, larger operational spaces, and improved break rooms.
Amazon operates nearby facilities at 1 National St. in Milford and at 351 Maple St. in Bellingham.
The property and building at 8 Industrial Drive is owned by Boston private equity giant, Cabot Properties Inc. through an entity, Knickerbocker Milford LLC, according to the Town of Milford Assessor's Office. Cabot purchased the property in 2019 for $33.6 million, according to the Worcester District Registry of Deeds.
Amazon is building a large Charlton facility totaling 1 million square feet, as well as a last-mile facility in Worcester at the site of the former Greendale Mall. Another last-mile facility at 125 Goddard Memorial Drive in Worcester constructed in the last year has opened.
