Framingham clinical research firm Alira Health has promoted Annabel de Maria to the newly created role of chief patient officer, effective immediately.
De Maria previously served as the vice president of patient engagement at the firm and is based out of the firm’s Barcelona, Spain office, according to a Thursday press release from the company. In her new executive role, de Maria will be responsible for managing engagement across the research firm’s patient-facing innovation services.
The chief patient officer position is a new role created as part of Alira Health’s move to involve patients in healthcare solutions, saidCristiana Troli, manager of public relations and corporate communications.
Prior to joining Alira Health in 2020, de Maria was in charge of corporate communications at the Spanish pharmaceutical company Almirall and the head of media relations for European operations of Nestlé Purina.
"I am proud to have Annabel leading in this critically important position as our Chief Patient Officer, in collaboration with all of our teams and services across Alira Health,” said Gabriele Brambilla, CEO Alira Health. “Her guidance and leadership enables us to partner with patients throughout the whole lifecycle management of a drug or medical device.”
Alira Health is expecting a spike in demand for its services as patient control of data increases. In January, the company raised $58 million from investors to help meet this anticipated spike in demand.
