Natick-based BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. said sales hit $1.05 billion in June, an 18.8 percent increase compared to June of last year.
Same-store sales increased by 16.5 percent, helped by an 8.2 percent increase in gasoline sales, the company said. Excluding gasoline sales, the company said traffic at BJ’s stores increased about 6 percent and the average transaction amount increased by about 2 percent compared to June 2007.
Food sales increased 11 percent, driven by strong sales of perishable items, and sales of general merchandise increased by 4 percent.
The company said the strongest sales increases in June compared to the same month a year ago were in air conditioners, food items, household chemicals and beauty aids.
