The Associated Industries of Massachusetts says parts of Gov. Deval Patrick’s “education action agenda” could help keep Massachusetts businesses competitive in the world economy.
AIM said the state, while a national leader in academic performance, lags when compared to international competitors. The organization said it favors Patrick’s initiatives for supporting at-risk students, longer school days and differential pay for math and science teachers. The initiatives, AIM said, would not only better prepare students for college, but for work.
AIM would like to see Patrick’s initiatives used to “broadly transform and improve the Commonwealth’s public education system.” Otherwise, the state’s students may be “denied the ability to thrive” in the world economy.
