Richard Lord, the president and CEO of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts for nearly two decades, announced Friday he will retire next year.
Lord said he will remain as the head of Boston-based AIM while its board of directors chooses a successor for the group, which says it represents the economic issues of more than 4,000 businesses that employ 650,000 Massachusetts residents.
"It’s now time for me to set out on a new adventure while AIM finds a leader who will build on this strong foundation for the future,” Lord said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
Lord joined AIM in 1991 as executive vice president of government affairs after serving as chief of staff for the House Committee on Ways and Means on Beacon Hill. Before entering public service, Lord worked in financial positions at General Electric and McCormack and Dodge. He is a North Adams native and a Williams College graduate.
AIM said Lord's accomplishments as president and CEO include representing members' views during the 2006 state health care reform law and expanding AIM's human relations solutions arm to help employers with complex HR issues.
AIM did not give a time frame for finding a new leader.
