Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) has released its 2011-2012 Legislative Scorecard, giving all but two lawmakers marks of more than 60 percent in terms of moving the state toward goals outlined in AIM's January agenda regarding issues important to employers. The majority of Central Massachusetts lawmakers received marks in the high 70s.
Released at the end of each two-year term, the scorecard gave lawmakers good grades for legislation that address rising health care and electricity costs, freezing unemployment insurance rates, streamlining the administration of state government and giving cities and towns the ability to reduce health insurance costs through "innovative health plan designs."
But lawmakers didn't fare so well on legislation that would move more private child-care providers into a collective bargaining group and create health insurance coverage mandates for hearing aids and the treatment of cleft palates. AIM also criticized the decision against passing a bill that would have limited the awarding of treble damages to willful violations of the state's wage and hour statute.
