Tufts Health Plan of Watertown, which insures 118,000 in Central Massachusetts announced it has opened an office in downtown Worcester. Located at 1 Mercantile St., the office will serve as a satellite office for Tufts’ employer-sponsored and Medicare plans, the company said.
Tufts will also host representatives from its subsidiary, Network Health, at the Mercantile Street office. The Network Health representatives will help those with low and moderate incomes enroll in plans through the Massachusetts Health Connector, the state-sponsored insurance marketplace, as the Health Connector recently awarded Network Health the ability to assist people with enrollment by determining eligibility for coverage through the exchange, as well as affordability programs.
The announcement comes as many Tufts members will be transitioned to new insurance plans as a result of the Affordable Care Act, according to Network Health Community Relations Manager Patricia Ortiz.
“Our goal is to help individuals better understand their choices and make more informed decisions about their health and their health care coverage,” Ortiz said in a statement.
Network Health representatives will be on site in Worcester Monday through Friday, according to Tufts. The office will also feature work stations where people can complete health insurance applications online.
