Capitalizing on premium and fee increases, membership growth, cost containment and higher investment income, Hartford-based Aetna Inc. saw a 16 percent jump in profits for its second quarter. In its health care business, Aetna reported a net income of $403.1 million in the quarter, almost 37 percent higher than the $293.2 million in the same quarter last year.
