Worcester-based AdCare Educational Institute and Maine’s New England Institute of Addiction Studies have linked up in order to expand their reach and allow for more partnerships with agencies across the region.
The two nonprofits and longtime organizational partners have combined to form a program that will offer events, including the New England School of Addiction and Prevention Studies at Worcester State University in June 2018 and the New England School of Best Practices in Addiction Treatment at Waterville Valley, N.H. in late August.
Because of the wide scope of the opioid epidemic, it’s important for addiction services nonprofits to join forces so people have access to programming, said AdCare President Patrice Muchowski.
AdCare Educational Institute is a nonprofit organization that shares a name but with Worcester-based addiction treatment provider AdCare, but it is independent and maintains separate offices in the city.
James Gorske, executive director of AdCare Educational Institute, said the organization provides professional development for behavioral health practitioners providing treatment through programs funded by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Abuse.
The merger with the New England Institute of Addiction Studies won't impact Worcester operations directly, but rather expands AdCare Educational Insitute's scope of training events, Gorske said.
An earlier version of this story was modified to include more details about AdCare Educational Institute's relationship with AdCare of Worcester, and on the merger.
