Acton drug detection laboratory Psychemedics is beginning to offer testing for employers to detect if their employees are using synthetic cannabinoids.
Psychemedics announced Tuesday the new testing using hair samples will detect compounds commonly found in synthetic marijuana alternatives, including K2, Spice and Blaze, drugs commonly found in retail stores, head shops and online.
Many of those synthetic substances are now classified in the same category as heroin and LSD by the Federal Government, according to the company.
The company’s test will be continually updated to address changes in the synthetic cannabinoids market, adding additional compounds to the test as they are identified or become prevalent as reported by the scientific, law enforcement and regulatory communities.
The test can detect use over the previous few months, according the company. The company said it believes it is the first laboratory in the world to develop and market a hair test for synthetic cannabinoids in the workplace.
