Hill-Rom Surgical Solutions on Thursday announced the launch of a new system from its Acton-based wholly-owned subsidiary that rotates patients in order to make spinal surgery more effective.
The Allen Advance Table Lateral System was designed for lateral approaches in spinal surgery, according to a Thursday press release from Hill-Rom Surgical Solutions, which owns Acton-based Allen Medical Systems. When used with the Allen Advance Table, the lateral system allows for a 90-degree rotation of patients from a lateral position into a prone one.
It is already being used by Dr. Choll W. Kim, an expert in minimally-invasive lateral spine surgery at The Spine Institute of San Diego. Kim, who helped with the development of the product, said he and his team have noticed the system helps save time and makes a huge difference in the number of people required to move the patient from one position to the other.
