Advanced Cell Technology Inc. of Marlborough has patented its “embryo-safe” technique for deriving human embryonic stem cell lines.
The technique can take a single cell from an embryo without destroying the embryo. It is intended to address some government and researcher concerns about the use of embryonic cells, and is similar to a method already used for in vitro fertilization.
ACT said this patent is one of the most significant of the company’s 150-plus patents and patent applications related to stem cell therapy.
