Accounting firm blumshapiro opening Worcester office

The accounting and consulting firm blumshapiro is opening a downtown Worcester office to help the company expand across Central and Western Massachusetts.
The 5,000-square-foot office in the Mercantile Center at 100 Front St. will include as many as 25 workers when it opens Oct. 1.
Blumshapiro has other offices in Boston, Newton and Quincy as well as Cranston, R.I., and Marlborough, Shelton and West Hartford, Conn. In total, it has more than 450 employees, offering auditing, accounting, tax and business advisory and outsourcing services.
Blumshapiro comes to Worcester with ties to the city. Brian Renstrom, the firm's Massachusetts managing partner, is a Worcester Polytechnic Institute graduate in management and mechanical engineering. Renstrom said the firm is excited to be part of the Worcester community.
"The make-up of businesses in Central Massachusetts is very closely aligned with blum’s areas of expertise," Renstrom said. "As an economic engine for Central Massachusetts, Worcester will provide us with the ability to grow and service our clients locally while giving us the opportunity to attract local talent and become more meaningfully involved within the community."
Blumshapiro marks the latest in a recent series of firms turning to Worcester for new regional offices for what company officials have said is an attempt to tap into growth in the Worcester area.
LLB Architects, a Rhode Island architectural firm designing commercial, residential and other developments, opened a small office for six staffers at 40 Southbridge St. last summer. The firm has designed a renovation at Worcester Public Library's downtown branch.
Boston-based Feldman Surveyors will open a 2,000-square-foot office at 27 Mechanic St. where the firm says it will have room for an eventual 20 employees. The firm, which is staffing a few employees to start, has worked on the $53-million Worcester County Courthouse redevelopment now underway in Lincoln Square.
Also this spring, the Boston engineering firm Howard Stein Hudson has opened a downtown Worcester office in the Guaranty Building at 370 Main St. The company's projects have included an elementary school in Milford and the safety improvements in Worcester's Tatnuck Square.
The Engineering Corp., engineering and construction management firm with offices in Andover and Hampton, N.H., has opened an office at 311 Main St.
Another downtown office said this month it is expanding. The Westfield engineering and environmental consulting firm Tighe & Bond is relocating to a 16,000-square-foot office space in the Mercantile Center to house 80 employees.
