CSX Transportation recognized Grafton & Upton Railroad as one of its fastest-growing short line rail partners in the nation for 2012, during which the railroad increased its freight volume handled by 193 percent. The award was given at the national carrier's annual Short Line Workshop in Jacksonville, Fla.

Kathleen Ivanowski, Deborah Penta, Mable Millner, Barbara Nealon and Meridith Wesby were awarded the YWCA's Katharine F. Erskine Award during the 20th annual Tribute to Women on May 6 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. Ivanowski is the visual arts curriculum liaison for the Worcester Public Schools. Penta is president and CEO of marketing, advertising and public relations firm PENTA Communications Inc., based in Westborough. Millner is associate dean for diversity and inclusion, and director of the office of multicultural education at the College of the Holy Cross. Nealon is director of social services and multicultural services at Heywood Hospital in Gardner. Wesby is the administrator of the Fred Harris Daniels Foundation, a local private foundation.
Worcester Public Library took first place in the social media category at the 21st biennial public relations awards. The library was presented with a certificate by the Massachusetts Library Association.
Marlborough-based backup and recovery company Sepaton Inc. was awarded the Good Neighbor Food Security Award by United Way. Sepaton was honored for its participation in the Hope for the Holidays program.
Marlborough-based DMT (Diamond Machining Technology) earned a North American Retail Hardware Association Packaging & Merchandising Gold Award for its double-sided diafold diamond sharpener. The product was featured at the NRHA Village at the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas.
The Training Associates of Westborough was named a global Top 20 Training Outsourcing company for the fifth consecutive year by TrainingIndustry.com. Selection was based on such criteria as industry visibility; innovation and impact; and capability to deliver multiple types of training services.
Mychelle Phillips, assistant operations manager, and Ellen Coughlin, human resources manager at Leominster Credit Union, were selected as recipients of the Credit Union Rising Stars Award. Both have worked at the credit union for 10 years. The awards were presented at an event hosted in part by The Massachusetts Credit Union League.
Milford-based Atlas Travel was again named one of the 50 Fastest-Growing Women-Led Companies in North America. President and CEO Elaine Osgood ranked on the Women Presidents' Organization list for the fourth year in a row.
