Roland Gauthier, chairman of the board at North Brookfield Savings Bank, was named an honorary guardian by Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester. The award goes to alumni who have exhibited dedication to the school. Gauthier has been involved with the school's foundation for nearly 20 years.
Bill Murphy, branch manager of Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp.'s Auburn branch, was recognized as the No. 1 loan originator in Central Massachusetts by Banker & Tradesman. Fairway Independent Mortgage has eight branches in the state.
Workers' Credit Union in Fitchburg earned preferred-lender status from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The Preferred Lenders Program is part of SBA's effort to streamline its loan approval process for small businesses. Workers' has 16 offices in Central Massachusetts.
United Way of North Central Massachusetts in Fitchburg; Leominster-based Boys & Girls Clubs of Fitchburg and Leominster; Loaves & Fishes, Devens; and Our Father's House, Fitchburg, were certified in volunteer management by Points of Light, a national nonprofit. The certification program — Service Enterprise — provides research-based assessment, training and consulting tools for nonprofits.
Worcester-based Hanover Insurance Group was named a top carrier in Insurance Business America Magazine's 5-Star Carriers. The firm received 5-star marks in six of 10 categories, such as range of products and reputation.
David Backus, owner of Fish Window Cleaning in Leominster, received the Navigator Award at the annual Fish Window Cleaning Convention in St. Louis last month. He was honored for his work with prospective franchisees.
