Accolades

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA Foundation has given HealthAlliance Hospital of Leominster a $25,000 planning grant to develop a new program called ∀ˆœBuilding Cultural Bridges.∀ˆ The program∀ˆ™s goals are to make the hospital reflect the diversity of the communities it serves in its staff and volunteers and eliminate cross-cultural barriers. Consigli Construction Company recently announced a pledge of $25,000 to Marlborough Hospital to be paid over the next three years. The donation, which will help support the hospital∀ˆ™s general fund, makes the company a member of the hospital∀ˆ™s ∀ˆœPresident∀ˆ™s Circle,∀ˆ a group of local businesses and philanthropic leaders who are committed to supporting health care for community members. The Ninety Nine Restaurant on East Central Street in Worcester donated $2,590 to the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester and $2,010 to the Worcester Educational Fund on Sept. 5. After a recent refurbishing, the restaurant raised the funds through a silent auction for the memorabilia that once adorned its walls. Leominster Credit Union recently participated in the Wachusett Health Education Action Team Community Services∀ˆ™ Backpack and Supply Program. More than 326 area students headed back to school with new backpacks and school supplies this year thanks to LCU and other donors. Sovereign Bank Foundation recently awarded $3,000 to the Twin Cities Community Development Corporation through its Spirit of Your Neighborhood Campaign. The CDC will use the award for its Downtown Initiative, which aims to create sustainable change in downtown Fitchburg. Shown, from left to right, are John E. Of Note:

The Massachusetts Bar Association presented its highest honor, the Gold Medal Award, to Fitchburg lawyer and Walpole resident Edward P. Ryan, Jr. on Sept. 6.  Ryan is a past president of the MBA, chair of the MBA Committee on Judicial Independence and a member of the association’s Criminal Justice Section Council.

Bruce Taylor, broker of ERA Key Realty in Milford, received the ERA Real Estate 2007 Ed Bilinkas memorial Award on behalf of his team in recognition of their success in raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other causes.

J.M. Coull, a Maynard construction company, donated $500 to the Organization for the Assabet River to help protect, preserve and enhance the river’s natural and recreational features.
