More than 150 employees from the Worcester facility of Illinois pharmaceutical company AbbVie are building a STEM lab for Forest-Grove Middle School in Worcester.
This project is part of AbbVie’s seventh annual Week of Possibilities local community engagement program which strives to provide children in the area with technological tools that will better their education. More than 15,000 AbbVie employees from over 50 countries collaborate with AbbVie’s nonprofit partners in this week. For the Worcester lab, the company teamed with Washington, D.C. education resources nonprofit Heart of America to upgrade the facilities, according to the June 16 press release.
The STEM lab will serve the 920 students of Forest- Grove Middle School and is designed to be highly immersive.
On Wednesday, volunteers from AbbVie will engage in various tasks to complete the large-scale project, including deep cleaning, painting, building furniture, placing décor, assembling technology, and preparing maker components to complete the space. Additionally, there will be STEM-based educational resource kits for students to take home that day.
