The average gas price in Massachusetts is unchanged since last week thanks to high travel volume over the holidays, although auto club AAA Northeast says this is a precursor to a drop.
The price of $2.43 per gallon for regular unleaded - 6 cents below the national average - is unchanged from the rates a week ago and should begin dropping, AAA said on Wednesday.
“Although prices at the pump nationally went up over the holidays, motorists can expect to see prices trend cheaper this month as we are likely to see a significant drop in gasoline demand with the holidays now in the rear view mirror,” Director of Public and Legislative Affairs Mary Maguire said in a press release.
According to AAA’s gas rate announcements, the state’s gas prices have been falling - slowly - since a 44-cent spike following Hurricane Harvey in early September, raising prices to $2.70.
At the start of 2017, gas prices were 16 cents lower at $2.27.
