$7M Cancer Screening Contract For Marlborough Firm

The Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, which provides supplies to the armed services, has awarded a Marlborough company a $7 million extension to a contract for medical supplies.

The contract was awarded to Cytyc Corp., which was acquired by Bedford-based Hologic Inc. last year for $6.2 billion in cash and stock.

The contract is for Cytyc’s pap smear tests, which shows the presence of cervical cancer in women, and an imaging system to look at the results. The center provides the supplies to the medical treatment facilities of the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.

This is the fourth extension of the original one-year contract awarded in 2005, according to the center.
