Five health care organizations have received grants totaling $65,000 from the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Alliance Charitable Foundation for health care and medical services they deliver.
Altogether, the foundation awarded a dozen grants totaling $160,000 to help support services that address vision care, healthy lifestyles, asthma reduction, prevention and screening services, and primary care for the uninsured.
Grant recipients in Central Massachusetts include:
- Heywood Hospital, Gardner: $20,000 for a part-time pharmacist who will provide in-home medication counseling, monitoring and reconciliation to identify problems.
- UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester: $15,000 for a home-based asthma reduction program for children and families living in the Bell Hill area of Worcester.
- Girls Inc., Worcester: $10,000 to support an agency program, Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for At-Risk Girls, as well as two components that address unhealthy behaviors that include substance abuse, poor nutrition and lack of exercise.
- MetroWest Free Medical Program, Sudbury: $10,000 to help expand health services in Framingham and Sudbury.
- Children’s Health Care and Nutritional Goals through Education (CHANGE), Shrewsbury: $10,000 to support expansion of its tuberculosis screening and education program.
