Francisco Torres
Then: Economic development coordinator for the Town of Westborough
Now: Transformative Development Initiative (TDI) fellow for MassDevelopment, Fitchburg
Torres’ development talents have benefitted Westborough, Brookline and now Fitchburg, where he’s a fellow for the MassDevelopment’s TDI, which helps communities revitalize their downtown through grant programs, real estate investments and technical assistance. Shortly after being named 40 Under Forty, Torres became an urban planner in Brookline, helping shape zoning bylaws for the recreational marijuana industry before the opening of the first cannabis shop in the immediate Boston area this spring. In Fitchburg, he’s led the Activate Mill Street program, a public space for art, performance and vendors, and his expertise will come in handy with a $65,000 given to Fitchburg through the TDI program, including incentives for facade improvements and lease subsidies to encourage more active storefronts. – Profile written by Grant Welker
What did 40 Under Forty mean to you? Above being an excellent way to expand my professional network, the award validated the work I do as an economic development professional.
