An unwavering commitment to the local community has fueled Jessica-Lee Sabine and her cafe and bar, the Rose Room, for the past four years.
Sabine worked in the restaurant industry for more than 10 years before deciding to open her dream business with her husband Bill. Every ingredient on the Rose Room’s menu is locally sourced in New England and New York, with the very few exceptions of lemon, olive oil, and coffee. Despite having to close the cafe for three months during the coronavirus pandemic, Sabine opened an online shop to sell their breads and pastries, as well as local products, which her husband delivered throughout the area. Against the odds, the eatery has grown in the last year, adding six new employees. The Rose Room functions as a location for flower shares and a community-supported agriculture pickup location, and hosts frequent community nights including yoga classes, wine and cheese tastings, and clothing swaps. As secretary of the Webster Dudley Business Alliance, Sabine helps organize the alliance’s monthly events to support roughly 75 small business owners. She is a mother of two, and gave birth to her first daughter just three months before opening the restaurant in 2018.
