38 Studios Makes Its Move

38 Studios, former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s video game company, has officially headed south from Maynard to Providence, R.I.

The company’s 160 employees were expected to start work today after moving over the weekend.

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corp. offered 38 Studios a $75-million loan guarantee in exchange for a promise that it would create at least 125 jobs in the state by November 2011.

The move of 38 Studios is seen as a loss to the Bay State’s burgeoning video game industry. However, Massachusetts officials chose not to get into a bidding war with Rhode Island to retain the company’s headquarters and its jobs when Schilling announced his plans to move the firm in 2010.
