Companies in 21 Central Massachusetts communities will receive $2.9 million from a state fund that provides employee training money, according to Gov. Deval Patrick's office.
The 38 companies who will receive money from the state's Workforce Training Fund are located in communities from Spencer to Gardner to Whitinsville to Wayland and span a variety of economic sectors.
Training will include customer service, sales, machining, milling, robotics, project management, injection molding and computer technology.
The largest grants in Central Massachusetts will go to Affordable Interior Systems Inc. in Hudson ($242,100), Garlock Printing & Converting Corp. in Gardner ($201,900), Lonza Biologics Inc. in Hopkinton ($197,200) and Seracare Life Sciences Inc. in Milford ($160,300).
Statewide, workforce training grants announced today total $11.3 million. The state says the money will train 13,000 workers and create 1,700 new jobs.
The workforce training fund, created in 1999, is funded by employer contributions and will have $18 million available next year. The fund was recently converted to a trust, which allows it to collect and disburse money as needed rather than on an appropriations cycle.
